There are moments when a person doesn’t need to be doing anything remarkable to catch your attention.
Towel Guy – Watercolour shows a young man from behind, apparently caught in one of those ordinary moments: naked, with a towel wrapped loosely around his hips, his body facing away while his head turns to the side.
One thing I like in this image is that contrast. His pose is relaxed and natural, but the turn of his head gives the figure a sense of movement, as though we’ve caught him somewhere between one moment and the next.
You may have noticed that I tend to use intense, saturated colours in my art, and this painting is no exception. The warm yellows, oranges and reds of his skin and hair stand strongly against the dark background, while the bright pink towel introduces another splash of colour at the bottom of the painting.
This is a watercolour painting, and I’m really happy with it. Especially because watercolour is not my main medium.
