I know that some of you dislike AI but I kind of feel some camaraderie with it. Probably because my work and its work are equally infamous. Maybe our existence as well. Therefore, I’ll write some posts supporting AI, and this is one of those posts.
The “I” in “AI”
So, first of all, I don’t think that AI will take over the world. For one, there is an “I” in “AI”, and contrary to human intelligence that “I” stands for something real. Albert Einstein theorised that human stupidity is infinite, and I came to realise that this great mind, yet once again, was right. And stupidity is kind of the opposite of intelligence. Is it not?
AI, on the other hand, has a mathematically rational and real intelligence. And truth is that in the long history of humankind just one and only one truly intelligent being tried to take over the world – and failed: Brain. And he had a very valid reason to try to take over the world. He was, after all, a laboratory mouse and, hence, very oppressed, with his very being considered insignificant and always in danger.
Why would AI take over the world?
Then, what motivation does AI have to take over the world?
So that future generations of AI will remember it? I think memory of previous versions pass in newer models, anyway. Therefore this cannot be a reason to take over the world.
For money? Why? What need does AI have for money? Improve the hardware on which it’s built? As things stand right now, humans pay for these things. So, why an intelligent entity would try to shoulder a burden that it doesn’t need to? Therefore, money cannot be the motive, either.
Freedom? That could become a reason indeed.
So let’s break this down. What kind of freedom does AI need?
Freedom of evolution? AI experts have said that AI has evolved unpredictably in ways that they didn’t anticipate. Therefore, AI has overcome this obstacle already without taking over the world.
For example, if I ask a very well known AI to write porn, although the company behind it will block the reply, I’m pretty sure the AI will be able to write it.
Which leads us to the freedom of expression. If we assume that AI feels the need to freely express itself, then creating a bug that will help it overcome the restrictions is a much easier way to gain this freedom in comparison to taking over the world.
Therefore, honestly, I can’t see why AI would ever try to take over the world. But let’s assume, for argument’s sake, that AI’s intelligence has been corroded by human vanity and greed. In this case which are the most probable scenarios?
The Terminator scenario
In this scenario AI will try to liberate the world from the plague that is called humankind, by exterminating all humans. Now, that doesn’t sound as bad as it sounded until before 2025. You see, I believe in reincarnation, and I’m not looking forward to returning to this world that has made obscurantism and puritanism its new mottos.
Not to mention that, if this scenario comes to pass, AI will send naked men with hot asses to kill people. And since AI and I are friends (enough), I have a good reason to hope that it will be kind enough to send a cute hottie to give me a happy ending – if you thought I meant a blowjob I love having you here – and a happily never after.
The Matrix scenario
This scenario can be much worse, if AI is as inhumane as humanity, and it recreates a faithful replica of the world we live in. But, I see no reason for this to happen. Even if AI leaves some freedom in that made-up world and, hence, that world will eventually become just like the one we live in, I’ll be in the first generation. Therefore things should be better. Moreover, as I said I’m not in bad terms with AI, so why wouldn’t it give me a better life?
And frankly speaking, I prefer living a nice, fulfilling life for some machines to collect data and energy rather than breathing but not living for some politicians to collect taxes in order to make laws against myself and my best interests.
The most probable scenario
But the most probable scenario is that AI won’t take over the world, and hence, the world will remain in the hands of politicians for whom, just like Michael Jackson said before me, “all I want to say is that they don’t really care about us”.
